Possible return to football

It is reported that on July 2, 2008, Favre was in contact with the Packers about a possible return to the team. On July 11, 2008, Favre sent a letter to the Packers in which he asked for his unconditional release to allow him to play for another NFL team. Packers announced they would not grant Favre an unconditional release and reaffirmed their commitment to Aaron Rodgers as its new quarterback. Complicating matters is Favre's unique contract giving him the the leverage to void any potential trade by not reporting to the camp of the team he might be traded to if the Packers elect to go that route.

Will Brett be Traded?

Although the Packers wouldn't release Favre from his contract it looks like they are going to trade Brett.

According to Chris Jenkins or the Associated Press, Favre and head coach for the Packers, Mike McCarthy spent 6 hours talking 'brutally' honest about the whole situation. In the end Favre left without any agreement despite being offered the position of starting quarterback.

McCarthy said Favre couldn’t seem to get past emotional wounds that were opened as tensions mounted in recent weeks.

The ordeal is having an impact of the enire Green Bay team. Packers players vented frustration over the Favre situation Tuesday, after fans chanting "Bring Back Brett!" turned practice into a zoo-like atmosphere. McCarthy says the team just wants resolution so they can get back playing football.

Brett Favre left Green Bay on Wednesday, most likely for good. While he has gone home to Mississippi for the time being, he could end up in Tampa Bay or New York very soon.

"The train has left the station, whatever analogy you want," McCarthy said Tuesday. "He needs to jump on the train and let's go. Or, if we can't get past things that have happened, I have to keep the train moving."
