Possible return to football

It is reported that on July 2, 2008, Favre was in contact with the Packers about a possible return to the team. On July 11, 2008, Favre sent a letter to the Packers in which he asked for his unconditional release to allow him to play for another NFL team. Packers announced they would not grant Favre an unconditional release and reaffirmed their commitment to Aaron Rodgers as its new quarterback. Complicating matters is Favre's unique contract giving him the the leverage to void any potential trade by not reporting to the camp of the team he might be traded to if the Packers elect to go that route.

The Brett Favre Saga

Last summer produced the shameful saga of Micheal Vick and his dog fighting.

This summer there is Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers saga. This is far more entertaining and thankfully there is no cruelty to animals.

The latest twist was Packers management allegedly filing a complaint to the NFL against non other than their arch rival, the Minnesota Vikings. They allege the Vikings have had illegal contact with Brett Favre.

Naturally the Vikings aren't giving any comments regarding the allegations that they have had inappropriate contact with Brett Favre during the period that Favre has been attempting to return to pro football.

At the heart of this newest installment of the Favre - Packers saga is an undisclosed source who claims to be close to the Packer organization and familiar with the complaint that was filed.

The source, who remains unnamed, informed The Associated Press Wednesday night that the Packers had filed the complaint against the Vikings for tampering.

The source also said the Packers suspect the inappropriate discussions took place between Favre and Darrell Bevell, offensive coordinator for the Vikings.

I love these undisclosed sources, reminds me of the Watergate scandel. "Deep Throat" anyone?

Favre and Bevell have been long time friends since Bevell's days as an assistant at Green Bay.

The Packers believe Favre's sudden request for release supports their theory of Bevell and The Vikings having some sort of deal in place with Brett Favre.

It is now being claimed that The Packers have requested a league investigation and that checking the phone records will prove their claims.

Phone records alone, probably can not prove these allegations, However, the NFL has been more diligent in these kind of issues.

The San Francisco 49ers were smacked for just such an infraction. They were forced to give up their fifth round draft pick and trade three third round picks with the Chicago Bears in the April draft.

The continuing saga of Brett and The Green Bay Packers contiues, giving no evidence it will be resolved before the start of the 2008 season
